Option 2: Analyzing your Dissertation Topic Through Critical Theories The purpose of this paper is to begin conceptualizing your dissertation topic/research area through critical theories and constructs. In this paper, you should spend some time developing the significance of your topic and what critical theories might reveal about it. The paper should be conceptualized into three sections: ◦Part I (1 page): Reflect on and describe your dissertation topic (i.e., why you have decided to research that particular topic/phenomena). Explore how your intersecting identities impact or shape how might understand/engage with your dissertation topic. ◦Part II (7-8 pages): Utilizing one or two social justice theories and frameworks, analyze how the theor(ies) might impact your understanding/framing of your dissertation topic. Consider how each theory might inform your understanding of your dissertation topic? Additionally, what would each social justice theor(ies) recommend in terms of addressing your dissertation topic? You may use any social justice theories covered in the course readings (see me if you want to include theories not covered). ◦Part III (1 page): Reflection – address the process of engaging with this paper and conclusions about what your social justice theories reveal about your dissertation topic
