Understanding Matter

Matter is everything that has mass and occupies space, and that can be perceived by the senses. For example, food, cars, trees, the air we breathe and human bodies are made of matter.

Matter has properties that can be described by density, solubility, conductivity, magnetism, among others.

Matter is classified as homogeneous and heterogeneous. Homogeneous matter has a uniform composition, while heterogeneous matter has a non-uniform composition.

Matter is made up of molecules, which are the smallest part into which a substance can be divided without losing its properties and nature. In turn, a molecule is made up of atoms.

Mass is the amount of matter that a body has, and is measured with a balance. The most used unit of measurement is the kilogram, whose symbol is kg.
