Why are detritivores so important to the food web?

Remember, every organism in an ecosystem plays an important role, even the ones that might seem less exciting at first glance. By exploring the role of detritivores, you'll gain a deeper understanding of how energy flows through food webs and how different organisms depend on each other in complex ways.

Things to consider:

1. What are detritivores ?
2. How do detritivores obtain their energy and nutrients.
3. How do detritivores contribute to nutrient cycling in the ecosystem. 4.How do the actions of detritivores affect other organisms in the food web, such as plants and animals.
4. Imagine what might happen to an ecosystem if all the detritivores suddenly disappeared. What would be the short-term and long-term effects on the food web and energy transfer?
