Be a Food Artist: Using Text and Visuals Together (copy)

In this assignment, you will use both the written directions and the illustrations (Figures 3 and 4) from the selection 'Be a Food Artist.' Read the question carefully and answer using evidence from the selection.

Answer the following question using evidence from the selection. Be sure to explain which step in the directions Figures 3 and 4 support, and use details from the text to support your answer.

  1. Now, add details to your sculpture by shaping the dough. For example, create bird feathers or fish scales by snipping into the dough. Create holes along the edge for fun or a cool design. Press cookie cutters into the dough to form the shape you want to follow.

  2. Beat the egg with a tablespoon of water. Using a pastry brush, apply the egg to your sculpture where you want it to be shiny. Add food coloring to the beaten egg if you want to paint on your dough sculpture. The egg wash will also help the seeds and raisins stay where you place them.
