Task 1 RA2 Identifying Trends, Patterns, and Relationships

In this task, you will practise the skill of analysing scientific evidence using the data you have already collected for your research investigation. You will use at least two of your approved evidence sources to summarise key evidence, identify trends, patterns, and relationships, and make comparisons across the sources. Your response should use actual numerical data and units where possible, refer to your sources as Evidence Source 1, Evidence Source 2, etc., and use full scientific sentences. Focus only on what the data shows, not why trends occur or the reliability of the evidence. This is preparation for a hand-written exam.

Important information about this activity This activity is designed to help you practise structuring your response and using evidence effectively.

The system will provide feedback on how you use data, identify trends, compare sources, and structure your response.

However, it will not check:

  • whether your research question (RQ) matches your claim
  • whether your interpretation of the data is correct
  • whether your evidence fully supports your response

It is your responsibility to:

  • ensure your analysis is accurate
  • check that your data matches your sources
  • make sure your response answers your research question

All data and evidence referred to in your response must be included in your printed logbook. If your teacher cannot locate the referenced data or sources, your analysis of trends, patterns, and relationships cannot be verified and will not be fully credited.

Question 1

Essay

Write your research question exactly as you will use it in your exam.

Summarise the key evidence and identify trends, patterns, and relationships across the sources.

Use specific data from at least two sources, compare your findings, and refer to them as Evidence Source 1, Evidence Source 2, etc.

Focus on what the evidence shows. Do not explain why the trends occur (this will occur later on in another section).
