Journey on the Global Winds: A Creative Writing Assignment

Imagine you are a tiny traveler, like a water droplet, a grain of Saharan dust, a weather balloon, a lost hot air lantern, or a sentient pollen grain. Your journey will take you across the globe, riding the powerful global winds. As you travel, you will experience different types of winds, such as trade winds, westerlies, and polar easterlies. Your task is to write a creative story that describes your journey as you move from one region to another, explaining how the wind changes and what it is like in each region.

Group 1

Write a story from the perspective of your chosen traveler. Your story should include:

  • A description of your starting point and which global wind you first encounter (for example, the trade winds).
  • How the wind changes as you move into a new region and become part of a different global wind (for example, from the trade winds to the westerlies).
  • The characteristics of the wind in each region (such as direction, temperature, and strength).
  • How these changes affect your journey and what you experience along the way. Be creative and use scientific vocabulary where appropriate!
