Through the Mysterious Door: A Creative Writing Assignment

Imagine you are walking somewhere familiar when you suddenly see a door that shouldn't be there. It looks normal, but you feel like it wants you to open it. Your task is to write a story about what happens when you step through this mysterious door. Use the plan provided to help organize your ideas, but you may use your own planning method if you prefer. Remember to include lots of details and description to make your story interesting. You have 30 minutes to plan, write, edit, and revise before you submit your work. If you finish early, add more details and description to your story.

Group 1

Use the following plan to help organize your story:

  1. Introduction: Describe where you are and how you find the door.
  2. Rising Action: Describe what you feel as you approach and open the door.
  3. Climax: Describe what you see and experience when you go through the door.
  4. Falling Action: What happens next? How do you react?
  5. Conclusion: How does the adventure end? Do you return, or stay in the new place?

Be sure to use descriptive language, dialogue (if you want), and sensory details (what you see, hear, feel, smell, or taste).
