Final Short Story Assignment
For this assignment, you will write an original short story that demonstrates your understanding of narrative elements. Your story should be 2–4 typed pages and include all the requirements listed below. Use the checklist to help you plan and revise your story. Make sure to include strong characters, a vivid setting, a clear plot structure, and engaging dialogue. Remember to use 'show, don’t tell' techniques to express emotions and events. Edit your work for grammar and spelling before submitting.
Group 1
Use the checklist below as you plan, write, and revise your short story. Make sure your story includes all of the following elements.
Question 1a
What is the name and motivation of your main character (protagonist)? Briefly describe how this character changes or grows during the story.
Question 1b
List your two minor characters and explain their roles in the story.
Question 1c
Describe the setting of your story. Include the location, time, and at least three sensory details (what can be seen, heard, smelled, tasted, or touched).
Question 1d
What is the mood of your story? How will you create this mood through your writing?
Question 1e
Briefly outline your story’s plot structure by listing the following parts: Exposition, Inciting Incident, Rising Action (2–3 events), Climax, Falling Action, and Resolution.
