You have been learning about corn in different ways—its history, how it grows, and why it is important. Write an informational essay that teaches your reader about corn using what you already know.

  • Begin with a hook (something that will grab your reader’s attention).
  • Give a little background information about corn.
  • End your introduction with a thesis sentence that tells the main idea of your essay.
  1. Body Paragraphs
  • Each body paragraph should begin with a topic sentence.
  • Include at least three details, facts, or examples in each body paragraph to support your topic sentence.
  • Be clear and organized so your reader can follow your ideas.
  1. Conclusion
  • Restate your thesis in a new way.
  • Summarize your main points from the body paragraphs.
  • End with a closing thought, such as why corn matters, what we can learn from it, or how it affects our daily lives.
