Diversity of Religious Beliefs

Religions around the world vary greatly, but one way to understand them is through how they view divinity. Religions can be monotheistic, believing in one God, or polytheistic, worshiping multiple gods. Yet other religions are nontheistic and do not worship gods. Read about religions that fall into each of these three categories, then answer the question.

Monotheistic Religions:

Christianity: Christians believe in one God who created and oversees the world. They follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, using the Bible as their holy scripture. Islam: Muslims are monotheistic, worshiping Allah as the only God. Followers practice the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, detailed in the Quran. Judaism: Judaism is also monotheistic, centered on the belief in one God. The Torah is the foundational text, guiding the lives and practices of Jewish people.

Polytheistic Religions:

Hinduism: One of the oldest religions, Hinduism involves the worship of many gods and goddesses, each representing various aspects of life and the cosmos. Sacred texts include the Vedas and the Bhagavad Gita. Ancient Religions: Many ancient religions, like those of the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians, were polytheistic. (Note: These are generally not practiced in their original forms today but are important for historical context.)

Buddhism and Sikhism:

Buddhism might be seen as nontheistic rather than polytheistic or monotheistic. It does not focus on the worship of gods but rather on the path towards enlightenment taught by Buddha. Sikhism is monotheistic, centering on the belief in one God. It emphasizes equality, honest living, and community service.
