Enduring Issues Essay

Definition:

An enduring issue is a challenge or problem that has been debated or discussed across time. An enduring issue is one that many societies have attempted to address with varying degrees of success.**

Enduring Issues (Choose 1)

1) Conflict

  • Conflict is a serious disagreement or argument. It can take the form of: War, competition, fights and disputes between countries, groups of people, social classes, etc.

2) Human Rights Violations/Inequity

  • Inequity is a lack of fairness or justice. When there is inequity, one person or group of people do not have as much power or opportunity as others. It can take the form of: Injustice, inequality, exclusion, restrictions and/or discrimination against a particular group of people.


3) Impact of Media and Technology

  • Technology is a new method of addressing a problem. It can take the form of: Positive and negative consequences of technology on people, the economy and the environment, and media.

4) Impact of Ideas and Beliefs

  • Our ideas and beliefs shape the way we look at the world. Ideas and beliefs can come from one’s conclusions from observation, religion, parents, books, or friends.

5) Power

  • Power is the influence or control over the behavior of people and it is a part of every human interaction. It can take the form of: Changes in power or authority, power struggles, ability for people to have a voice in the government and society, abuse of power.
