3x Genre EduProtocol - Map of 13 Colonies
In this assignment, you will explore different genres by creating three distinct pieces based on the same image. This will help you understand how genre influences storytelling and expression.
Group 1
Use the attached image to create three different pieces of writing, each in a different genre: narrative, persuasive, and descriptive.
Source 1.1
Question 1a
Write a narrative paragraph based on the image. Examples of narrative include short story, diary entry, and personal anecdote.
Question 1b
Imagine you are a delegate at the Second Continental Congress in 1775. The colonies are debating whether they should unite to fight Great Britain, or if their regional differences are too important to sacrifice.
Write a persuasive paragraph arguing for one of the following positions:
Position A: Argue for Regional Identity (Stay Divided)
Persuade the other delegates that the differences between the regions (New England, Middle, and Southern) are too vast and important to unify under one single government. Fighting a war together will only force one region to sacrifice its unique way of life for the benefit of the others, making regional independence the best path forward.
Position B: Argue for National Unity (Unite Now)
Persuade the other delegates that the geographic differences are secondary to the political danger posed by Great Britain. You must argue that the only way for any region to survive and thrive is to combine the strengths of all three (Southern agriculture, Middle Colony trade, and New England industry) into a single, unified national force.
Question 1c
Write an informational paragraph that describes the scene in the image. Examples include a news article, biography, or textbook entry. Use sensory details to bring the image to life.
