3x Genre EduProtocol - Sumerian City-States: Ziggurat of Ur
In this assignment, you will explore different genres by creating three distinct pieces based on the same image. This will help you understand how genre influences storytelling and expression.
Group 1
Use the attached image to create three different pieces of writing, each in a different genre: narrative, persuasive, and descriptive.
Source 1.1
This is a Ziggurat of Ur.
Question 1a
Write a narrative paragraph based on the image. Examples of narrative include short story, diary entry, and personal anecdote.
Question 1b
The Sumerians spent a huge amount of time and effort to build the Great Ziggurat of Ur around 2100 BCE. They had to make and move thousands of heavy mud-bricks, which were set in asphalt, to create a massive base the size of a modern football field, with three large levels.
Write one persuasive paragraph arguing why building this massive Ziggurat was a smart and necessary thing for the Sumerian people to do, or you could argue that it was a waste of time, laborers, and resources.
In your paragraph, you must:
- State your clear position (e.g., "The Ziggurat was an essential project...").
- Provide at least two strong reasons to support your position, using evidence from the text (e.g., what they believed about the gods, and the materials they used).
- Conclude with a sentence that re-states your argument in a new and powerful way.
Question 1c
Write an informational paragraph that describes the scene in the image. Examples include a news article, biography, or textbook entry. Use sensory details to bring the image to life.
