Letter to King George III: The American Revolution

Directions: You are writing a letter to King George III, much like Thomas Jefferson did when he wrote the Declaration of Independence. This is your opportunity to voice your opinion to the King to declare your complaints and state why the revolution had to happen.

Write a letter to King George III addressing the causes and outcomes of the American Revolution. Use the provided vocabulary and terms where appropriate. Each paragraph should address the specific prompt given.

Opening (AT LEAST 2 sentences): Start by explaining to the King how his actions have caused the colonists to become angry and rebel against him.

Question 1b

Essay

2nd Paragraph (AT LEAST 2 sentences): Tell the King how the colonists were able to unite against the British. Talk to him about some of the documents that helped to inspire and encourage the Patriots in their fight against the King.

Question 1c

Essay

3rd Paragraph (AT LEAST 2 sentences): Tell the King about the different groups and people that helped you win the war. Why did those groups help you out instead of his British army?

Essay

4th Paragraph (4-6 sentences): Close your letter by reminding the King how the colonists were able to gain the final victory of the war. Tell him how his army finally gave in.

P.S. (AT LEAST 2 sentences): Don’t forget to remind the King what this victory means to the colonists and what will become of the United States now.
