DAY 4 LEAP PREP - Which Founding Leader Had the Greatest Impact?

This assignment explores the contributions of four key Founding Leaders of the United States: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, and James Madison. You will analyze their achievements and evaluate which leader had the greatest long-term impact on the nation.

George Washington

  • Led the American colonists to victory in the Revolutionary War
  • First President of the United States
  • Set important traditions for future presidents
  • Strengthened trust in the new government

George Washington was the commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolution. His leadership helped the colonies defeat Great Britain and gain independence. Washington later became the first President of the United States. He set important precedents, such as serving only two terms and peacefully transferring power. By refusing to act like a king, Washington helped establish a strong and stable democracy.

Thomas Jefferson

  • Main author of the Declaration of Independence
  • Strong supporter of natural rights and liberty
  • Expanded the nation through the Louisiana Purchase
  • Influenced American ideas about freedom

Thomas Jefferson was the primary author of the Declaration of Independence, which explained why the colonies were breaking away from Great Britain. He believed that all people are born with natural rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As president, Jefferson approved the Louisiana Purchase, which doubled the size of the United States. His ideas about freedom and limited government continue to influence American democracy.

Alexander Hamilton

  • Created the nation's financial system
  • Supported a strong federal government
  • First Secretary of the Treasury
  • Helped stabilize the early U.S. economy

Alexander Hamilton served as the first Secretary of the Treasury. He created a national bank and developed a financial system to help the United States pay its debts and grow economically. Hamilton believed a strong federal government was necessary for the nation to succeed. His economic plans helped make the new government stable and respected both at home and abroad.

James Madison

  • Known as the “Father of the Constitution”
  • Helped design checks and balances
  • Key supporter of the Bill of Rights
  • Protected individual freedoms

James Madison played a major role in writing the United States Constitution, earning him the title “Father of the Constitution.” He helped design the system of checks and balances to prevent any branch of government from becoming too powerful. Madison also helped write and support the Bill of Rights, which protects individual freedoms. His work shaped the structure of the U.S. government that is still used today.
