Rubric for American Government - Unit 1 Inquiry
This rubric is designed to assess student responses to the summative tasks in the American Government Unit 1 Inquiry. The tasks evaluate students' understanding of federal and presidential components of the U.S. Constitution and their ability to argue the merits of a federal presidential republic.

Question 1a
Explain how the Constitution created a republic with federal and presidential components in no more than three sentences.

Question 2a
Is a federal presidential republic the best form of democracy for America? Respond by writing an essay, creating a narrated PowerPoint, poster, or video editorial. Include a claim/thesis, relevant Enlightenment philosophy, democratic values, and counterarguments.
