Character Analysis Assignment
Choose one of the following prompts to explore a character from your chosen book. Write a detailed scene that addresses the prompt, focusing on character development and thematic elements.
The Character’s Breaking Point
Every character has limits. Write a scene where the main character reaches an emotional or mental breaking point based on what has happened in the book so far. How do they react—do they lash out, shut down, or find unexpected strength? What does this reveal about their true nature, and how might it affect their relationships or future actions?
The Character’s Mask
People often present themselves differently in public than they do in private. Write a passage showing how the main character behaves in front of others versus how they think or act when they are alone. What does this contrast reveal about their deepest fears, insecurities, or desires?
Confronting Their Flaws
Every character has strengths and weaknesses. Write a scene where someone close to the main character (a friend, family member, or rival) calls them out on a personal flaw. How does the main character react? Do they accept the criticism, deny it, or become defensive? What does this reveal about their self-awareness and personal growth?
Question 1
Choose one of the three prompts provided and write a scene that explores the character's development. Ensure your scene is detailed and reflects the character's internal and external conflicts. Consider how the scene impacts the overall narrative and themes of the book.
