Biology - Lab Journal - Yeast Metabolism
Question 1
Essay
We ran an experiment where we allowed yeast to consume sugar at 3 different temperatures: 25C, 30C, and 35C. We then measured the increase in CO2 over time because CO2 is a product of yeast metabolism. The three curves are shown below.
Write a lab report with the follow components:
- Identify the question we are trying to answer using the format "Effect of X on Y."
- Identify the independent and dependent variables.
- Describe the results by comparing each of the three curves.
- Explain a reason for why the 25C and 30C curves come together at 70 minutes.
- Explain a reason for why the 35C curve has the steepest slope at the beginning.
- Explain a reason for why all three curves flatten over time.
"Effect of varying temperature on the rate of CO2 production in baker’s yeast." The y-axis shows the concentration of CO2 and the x-axis shows the time in minutes.
