Question 1
Read the following excerpt from Act II of The Crucible by Arthur Miller.
Context: We're at the Proctors' house just after dinner. Elizabeth has caught John in a lie. He was alone with Abigail again. He's in trouble with his wife.
Excerpt:
Elizabeth: You were alone with her?
Proctor: For a moment alone, aye.
Elizabeth: Why, then, it is not as you told me.
Proctor: (angered) For a moment, I say. The others come in soon after.
Elizabeth: Do as you wish then.
Proctor: Woman, I’ll not have your suspicion anymore!
Elizabeth: Then let you not earn it.
A section of the dialogue has been removed. Please continue the conversation between Elizabeth and Proctor (John).
Ending: Elizabeth is not convinced by John's words. There is a real tension between husband and wife.
Instructions: Add two lines of dialogue for each character. Include one element of figurative language (metaphor or simile) in the conversation. Add a sensory element when describing the actions of the characters in the scene.
