Decide whether or not The Outsiders should remain part of the required reading for 8th grade students at La Mesa Junior High School. Write an argument paragraph and a counter argument paragraph on this topic.

After reading the PRO and CON essays about reading S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders**, write an argument paragraph answering the prompt:**

Should The Outsiders remain mandatory reading for 8th graders at La Mesa Junior High?

Use text evidence from the articles provided to support your stance on this issue. Then, write a counter argument paragraph, acknowledging the opposing point of view with the evidence that they would use to support their side. Finally, write a rebuttal (back to YOUR claim), arguing why your original claim is stronger, supported by evidence, analysis and a conclusion. For credit, write TWO complete paragraphs (see scaffolding slide attached for help, if needed).
