Body Paragraphs: Animal Superpowers Essay

In this assignment, you will write two body paragraphs for your essay about an animal with superpowers. Each paragraph should focus on one superpower (trait) that your animal has. You must follow the structure and requirements below for each paragraph. Use evidence and elaboration strategies to show how each trait is like a superpower. Remember to use transitional words and phrases, and check your writing for grammar mistakes.

Group 1

For each body paragraph, follow these steps:

  1. Write a topic sentence that clearly states the trait (superpower) your animal has.
  2. Give at least one sentence of background information about the trait.
  3. Provide a piece of evidence (either paraphrased or a direct quote with a citation).
  4. Write at least 3 sentences of elaboration using at least two of these strategies: cause and effect, comparison, explanation of significance, example, definition of a challenging word from the evidence, or getting specific.
  5. Add a transitional sentence that connects the first piece of evidence to the second.
  6. Provide a second piece of evidence (either paraphrased or a direct quote with a citation).
  7. Write at least 3 sentences of elaboration using at least two of the strategies listed above.
  8. End with a concluding sentence that summarizes the paragraph.

Use transitional words and phrases throughout your paragraph. Make sure your evidence and elaboration support your topic sentence and thesis.
