What Qualities Help Us Survive?

Human beings struggle to survive every day and have done so since we arose as a species. In modern life, many people struggle with medical, mental, or environmental factors. Other people choose to push themselves by taking on challenges such as mountain climbing, whitewater rafting, storm chasing, and skydiving. Whether people take these extra risks or not, all of us who are survivors must share certain qualities in order to make it through challenging and even dangerous experiences. What are those qualities, and why are they important to our survival? Read and carefully consider these perspectives. Each suggests a particular way of thinking about what helps us survive.
