AP Euro - Ch.13 Analysis of the Catholic Reformation FRQ
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther a German Priest nailed the 95 Theses to the door of his church in Wittenberg, Germany. Luther had come to believe that the Catholic Church had become corrupt and this list contained his ideas for reforming the Church. Luther's calls for reform led to the development of Protestantism and new denominations in Christianity. The Catholic Church was initially unsure of how to respond to Luther and the revolutionary ideas he unleashed but as the papacy came to realize this movement was not simply about reforming the Catholic Church but possibly dismantling it, calls for a strong resistance against the spread of Luther's ideas came forward.
