Subclaim/Topic Sentence: Clearly states first reason being argued
Evidence: Several pieces of research and evidence that supports the subclaim. Evidence should be paraphrased (in your own words) and NOT directly quoted. Each sentence must express a new, relevant piece of information.
In-text Citations: Every piece of data shows the source it came from either through the wording of the sentence or in parenthesis before the period at the end of the sentence.
Explanation: Student connects research with ideas and explanations of their own, showing how the research proves the claim.
Concluding sentence: “Wraps up” the paragraph and points out how this paragraph proves your overall claim. Evidence doesn’t count as a concluding sentence.
