Essay topic choices: Explain any three symbols from the novel. You may choose from: blood, "The Hearth and the Salamander," "The Sand and the Sieve," the phoenix, mirrors, the sun, or snakes. Within the body paragraphs you should mention where the symbols are mentioned in the novel, what they symbolize, and proof of what they symbolize: why are they important? Clarisse and Mildred are foils. Give examples to prove this and explain why it is important to the novel’s theme (purpose). What are the similarities and differences in the ways Clarisse, Faber, and Granger all influence Montag’s thoughts and actions? Give specific cited examples. One of the most pertinent topics in Fahrenheit 451 is the impact of technology. Through a close examination of at least three different elements in the text, write an essay exploring the significance of this deeper topic, and Bradbury’s theme. Is Fahrenheit 451 still a relevant novel to teach in schools today? With close reference to the events and themes of the text, write an essay explaining your viewpoint-in third person. How are individuality and conformity - which are contrasting concepts - depicted within the novel, and what deeper comment is Bradbury presenting about society? Compare and contrast the novel with the short story your group read (or one from another group). How was the use of technology the same? How was it different? Were the authors’ messages the same? How were the endings different? Were the conflicts solved or not?
