Gothic Literature: Orientation - getting familiar with the genre.
Question 1
Two short stories from the exam reading list: 'The Tell Tale Heart' by Edgar Allen Poe and 'Young Goodman Brown' by Nethaniel Hawthorne. Both are great examples of Gothic literature but for very different reasons. Doing this assignment is reading exam practice! You will be reading - skimming, scanning and finding and interpreting precise information. For VWO students: Read both short stories and tell me why they are considered great examples of this genre and what sets them apart (200-500 words). You may agree or disagree with the information you find. You will be able to find plenty of sources online to help you with this. For HAVO Students: Look up online about Edgar Allen Poe and the Gothic genre. Write around 200-300 words about how and where Poe fits into this genre. Include examples of his notable works - including his poetry.
