Directions: You must answer the following question using complete sentences. It is not enough to answer a question by merely listing facts. You should present a cogent argument based on your critical analysis of the question posed, using appropriate psychological terminology.
Harriet is running her first marathon. In addition to Harriet, thousands of others are running the event and there is a large crowd along most of the marathon route. Harriet has prepared for the day by completing many training runs, but her heart is racing at the start of the competition, even though it is a sunny day and the conditions are perfect. As she moves through the course, she finds herself stopping at many of the water stations to satisfy her thirst. By mile 15, her legs start to burn but she continues and ultimately completes the race. Explain how the following concepts relate to Harriet and running marathons.
