Unit 1: Research Method FRQ
Anderson and Dill (2000) conducted a study regarding violent video games. In this research, male and female undergraduates from Iowa State University were given a chance to play with either a violent video game (Wolfenstein 3D) or a nonviolent video game (Myst). During the experimental session, the participants played their assigned video games for 15 minutes. Then, after the play, each participant played a competitive game with an opponent in which the participant could deliver blasts of white noise through the earphones of the opponent. Each participant could determine how often, how long and how loud the white noise would be administered to the opponent.
Question 1

Question 3
Provide an operational definition for the dependent variable.
Question 4
Explain what is being exposed to the experimental and control groups.
Question 5
Explain why random assignment is important in this experiment.
Question 6
Identify a potential confounding variable and explain how it might impact the study.
Question 7
The results showed that the average time of white noise blast was longer from participants of the experimental group. Identify the measure of central tendency that was likely used and explain how you calculate that.
