Our country's government has three main parts that work together. They are called branches.

The first branch is the legislative branch. They are the people we vote for to make the laws. They work in the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.

The second branch is the executive branch. The president is in charge of this branch. The president's job is to make sure the laws are followed.

The third branch is the judicial branch. They are the judges and courts. Their job is to figure out what the laws mean. They decide if someone breaks a law. All three branches have to work together to keep our country running smoothly.
