W8: Rhetorical Writing Task (Character from Novel)

You’ve already created a rhetorical situation for a character in your novel and you have also gathered pieces of evidence. Now, use that work to write a rhetorical piece (a speech, letter, or editorial) from your character’s perspective. You may use your worksheet to help develop your response.

Your piece should:

• State a clear purpose for why your character is addressing the audience.
• Include at least one piece of evidence from the novel.
• Show awareness of audience and purpose through tone and word choice.
• Use at least one rhetorical device (such as repetition, figurative language, emotional appeal, or rhetorical question).
• Be organized into 2–3 paragraphs with a voice that matches your character.

This assignment will lockout at the end of the class period.
