2026 1984 Synthesis

George Orwell wrote his novel, 1984, in 1948 after witnessing WWII and the rise of potential totalitarian power in Stalin and Hitler. As a reflection of what this society would have become, his novel presents a dystopian vision of the political and social landscape in which the Party uses technology, language, and propaganda to exercise relentless control of its citizens. As the setting of the book was a not-too-distant future, Orwell surely meant his work to be a warning for our modern era; an era in which technology evolved to listen and respond to voice commands and where surveillance cameras are in every store and on every street corner.

Carefully consider the following 7 sources, then, in addition to 1984, synthesize information from at least three of the sources and incorporate them into a coherent, well-developed essay that identifies to what extent George Orwell accurately predicted modern society in his dystopian novel.
