AF - Essay 2 - Rhetorical Argument

You will be determining whether Napoleon or Snowball would make a better leader for Animal Farm. You will use Rhetorical devices (ethos, pathos, and logos) to analyze each character's words and actions. You will then write an essay that shows how their rhetorical appeal makes them a better candidate for Animal Farm. Be sure to include a short counterargument that explains, briefly, why the other character would NOT make a good leader for animal farm. Each paragraph should contain evidence. Your writing should be in the TEASIP format. Most of your evidence will likely come from Chapter 5, but you can use evidence from any page in chapters 1-5.

Question 1

Essay

Based on his actions and words, which character, Napoleon or Snowball, would make a better leader for Animal Farm? Use evidence from Chapters 1-5 to analyze their rhetorical appeal (ethos, pathos, and logos). Then write a 5 paragraph essay. Your essay should include an introduction, 2 body paragraphs, a counterargument, and a conclusion. Below are some suggestions for setting up your body paragraphs.

Suggestion 1
Body Paragraph 1: the character's logos (reasoning) based on [Evidence 1] the words they use and [Evidence 2] an action that shows their logic.
Body Paragraph 2: the character's ethos (credibility) based on [Evidence 1] an action that shows they are trustworthy and [Evidence 2] words or another action that shows they are a credible candidate.

Suggestion 2:

Body Paragraph 1: Pathos 1 -- The character appeals to emotions during [this scene] with [Evidence 1] and [Evidence 2]

Body Paragraph 2: Pathos 2 -- The character appeals to emotions during [scene 2] with [Evidence 1] and [Evidence 2].

Feel free to change it up. If you have questions, just ask.

Your Counterargument should show one rhetorical appeal and one piece of evidence that supports that to show why the other character would be a bad leader
